Sproat Lake Provincial Park

Located in the Alberni Valley, this lake sees a lot of activity. It is the runway for the huge Martin Mars water bombers that hurry off to extinguish forest fires. Sproat Lake's warm water attracts many swimmers, water skiers, wind surfers and anglers. Hiking trails exist, one leading to a prehistoric petroglyph, K'ak'awin, which is assumed to be a mythical marine creature. A large public marina, triple boat launch and campsites are also situated in the park. Located 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Port Alberni. Call 250-248-9460 for more information.
